Course Description

The VTCT (ITEC) Diploma for Beauty Specialists provides a thorough understanding and skills in Facial treatments (with the omission of electricals) manicure/pedicure and waxing for a Beauty Specialist requiring a high level qualification in beauty.

The main aim of the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Specialists is to enable candidates to provide treatments for the purposes of relaxation, and improving the condition of the skin and nails and provide skills at Level 2 in the National Qualification Framework for those interested in the Beauty Therapy industry.

Ideal for those seeking employment in Salons, Health farms, Spas and Cruise Liners.

Course Outline

iUBT427 Skincare and Eye Treatments
This unit enables students to understand the functions of the skin, recognise those contraindications to facial/eye treatment requiring medical permission and to explain and select the appropriate products suitable for client’s skin. The unit also aims at enabling the students to perform cleansing routine, toning and administering appropriate pre-heat treatment, perform skin analysis, enhancing the apperance of eyebrows and lashes through tinting and tweezing, perform facial massage using appropriate mediums and massage movements and demonstrate the correct usage of various masks.

iUBT428 Make-up
This unit enables students to understand and assess the client’s skin type and characteristics, recognise those contraindications to make-up and understand the selection of make-up according to occasion, client colouring, age and preferences. The unit also aims at enabling students to perform appropriate correction, concealing of flaws, perform appropriate contour and highlight on client’s face.

iUBT429 Manicure and Pedicure
This unit enables students to understand the different nail structure and systems, demonstrate how to check for contraindications and recognise any nail diseases and disorders and perform use of various products and tools. The unit also aims at enabling students to file nails according to nail shape, application of cuticle cream or oil, perform massage of hand and lower leg using various classical movements, buffing of nails and the correct application of base coat, nail enamel and top coat.

iUBT430 Waxing
This unit enables students to understand the structure and functions of the skin and hair, perform specific hygiene and understand the precautions for waxing and recognise general contraindications to waxing. The unit also aims at enabling students to sanitise the area to be treated, perform the required test, perform correct application of the appropriate products and the safe disposal of waste.

iUBT434 Professional Conduct and Business Awareness
This unit aims to provide understanding on maintaining a professional working relationship with other students/therapists, understanding on the impact of advertising, the necessity of having professional indemnity insurance, ensuring strict client confidentiality of clients and understanding the need for client’s consent. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating how to put client into the recovery position, supervise an evacuation in case of a fire alarm, carry out basic safety checks for electrical equipment and to promote the appropriate body language at all times.

Course Commencement Date

Courses will commence on every 1^st and 15^th of every month.

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Specialist by International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).

Notes

1. Graduates progression pathway is subject to the respective Institutions’ entry requirements at the point of application.
2. Foreigner’s application for jobs in Singapore is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MOM). MDI DOES NOT GUARANTEE any success rate of approval.

Entry Requirements

It is recommended that Candidates hold at least 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C or equivalent are recommended, but this is not essential. This is at the discretion of MDI and adult returners’ experience will be considered.

Learners who wish to undertake this qualification must also achieve the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention (COVID-19) for Beauty Therapy and Nail Services qualification or a regulated equivalent.

Other than the mentioned pre-requisites, the students should also have the following:

1. Students must be able to read and write in English or Chinese. Other cases will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
2. Students should be of a minimum of 16 years of age to be eligible for the courses.
3. For foreign students, relevant passes are required.

Students who do not meet the minimum entry requirement will be required to undergo an entrance test at MDI.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

1. Candidates must complete all modules with at least 75% (90% for International students) in attendance for each module to qualify for a full diploma.
2. Evidence of treatments is graded as either a Pass or Fail.
3. If a candidate is unsuccessful in any area, they will be expected to re-sit only the unit where they have not achieved a pass grade, to which they will be referred. Referrals should be completed within one year of the original examination provided that re-sits are attempted at least once every three months.

Examination

At the end of the course, you can register to sit for ITEC Examination. Upon passing both the practical and theory examinations, you will receive the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Diploma for Beauty Specialist by ITEC.

Manner of Assessment

Awards will be awarded by ITEC based on the student results.

Expected Examination Results Release Date

Not more than 3 months after the final assessment.

Course Fees

*The payment of Course Fees are to be made upon commencement of the first day of course.

~ Exam Fees payment is to be made upon commencement of the first day of course and applies only to students that wants to sit for the ITEC examinations.

^ Payment of Course Material Fees is to be made upon commencement of the first day of course.

Fees paid include complimentary Uniform, Fee Protection Scheme and Medical Insurance. Instalment payment schedule is not applicable to student pass holders.

Payment Schedule

For SDF

• 1st Payment – S$700 (For 80% Funding)
• 1st Payment – S$350 (For 90% Funding)

The first payment of Course Fees are to be made upon commencement of the first day of course stated in the Student Contract.

For Non-SDF and Non Student Pass Applicants

• 1st Payment – S$1200
• 2nd Payment – S$1200
• 3rd Payment – S$1100

The first payment of Course Fees are to be made upon commencement of the first day of course and the subsequent payment of Course Fees are to be made 1 week before scheduled instalment due date stated in the Student Contract.
