Course Description
Treatments for the purpose of caring for and enhancing nails.
The main aim of the VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology is to enable learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide nail technology treatments to the
general public and to gain employment in the beauty therapy and nail industry. The qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and over and is designed to provide occupational competence at level 3. It also provides a sound platform into further learning at level 3 or level 4.
Course Objectives
The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology comprises of ITEC units:
- iUBT429 Manicure & Pedicure
- iUBT311 Nail Technology
- iUBT434 Professional Conduct & Business Awareness
Course Outline
iUBT429 Manicure & Pedicure
This unit enables students to understand the different nail structure and systems, demonstrate how to check for contraindications and recognise any nail diseases and disorders and perform use of various products and tools. The unit also aims at enabling students to file nails according to nail shape, application of cuticle cream or oil, perform massage of hand and lower leg using various classical movements, buffing of nails and the correct application of base coat, nail enamel and top coat.
iUBT311 Nail Technology
This unit enables students to understand the concept of nail enhancements, recognise any nail diseases and disorders and allergic reactions and how to deal with them. The students would also be able to understand the contents of the products used, the theory behind the selection of the appropriate nail system to use, the concept behind the use of UV and how it produces its effects. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating an understanding of which system would be most appropriate, the selection of the correct nail tip, practical application of nail systems, U.V. gel overlay and acrylic to build a suitable nail.
iUBT434 Professional Conduct and Business Awareness
This unit aims to provide understanding on maintaining a professional working relationship with other students/therapists, understanding on the impact of advertising, the necessity of having professional indemnity insurance, ensuring strict client confidentiality of clients and understanding the need for client’s consent. The unit is also aimed at demonstrating how to put client into the recovery position, supervise an evacuation in case of a fire alarm, carry out basic safety checks for electrical equipment and to promote the appropriate body language at all times.

Course Commencement Date
Courses will commence on every 1st and 15th of every month.
Certificate Conferring Body
Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology by International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC).
